Frequently asked

Common questions

Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?+

Most patients do not need a referral, but some insurance plans (including certain HMO and Medicare Advantage plans) require one. Check with your plan, or call our office and we will help you confirm.

Will my eyes be dilated?+

Most comprehensive and medical exams include dilation so the doctor can examine the retina and optic nerve. Dilation blurs near vision and increases light sensitivity for several hours, so please bring sunglasses and arrange a driver if you are uncomfortable driving.

How long does cataract surgery take?+

The surgery itself usually takes 10 to 15 minutes per eye and is performed as an outpatient procedure with drops-only anesthesia and light sedation. Plan on being at the surgery center for a few hours in total.

Which insurance plans do you accept?+

We accept Medicare and most major medical plans, including Florida Blue / Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, AvMed, CarePlus, and Tricare. See the full list on our Patient Center page or call to verify your specific plan.

Can I get glasses and contacts at your office?+

Yes. Our on-site optical shop carries an extensive selection of designer frames in extended and hard-to-fit sizes, and our licensed opticians handle fittings, adjustments, and on-premises repairs. Contact lens fittings are also available.
